Architectural Style: Tudor Revival with Colonial Revival Influence

This home combines elements from both Tudor Revival and Colonial Revival architectural styles.

Tudor Revival Features

  • Steep gable roof with exposed rafters: The house features a steep gable roof with exposed rafters, a hallmark of Tudor Revival architecture.
  • Half-timbering: The house has decorative half-timbering on the facade, another characteristic feature of Tudor Revival homes. Half-timbering refers to a construction technique where wooden beams are used to create a grid on the exterior walls, with the spaces between the beams filled with brick or stucco. In modern Tudor Revival homes, the half-timbering may be decorative rather than structural.
  • Prominent chimney: The house has a large, prominent chimney on the right side, which is another common feature in Tudor Revival architecture.
  • Asymmetrical facade: The house has an asymmetrical facade, with the two-story section on the left projecting forward compared to the one-story section on the right. Asymmetry is common in Tudor Revival homes.

Colonial Revival Influence

  • Symmetrical door surround: The doorway has a symmetrical surround with pilasters and a transom window above the door, which are more typical features of Colonial Revival architecture.
  • Brick exterior: The house has a brick exterior, a common material for Colonial Revival homes in the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Overall, the house combines elements of both Tudor Revival and Colonial Revival styles. The steep gable roof with exposed rafters, half-timbering, prominent chimney, and asymmetrical facade are all indicative of Tudor Revival architecture. The symmetrical door surround and brick exterior suggest some Colonial Revival influence as well. Thus, the house can be classified as a Tudor Revival with Colonial Revival Influence style home.
